Snippets!

Hey, peeps!

This thread shall be an on-going Snippets Competition.

I'll be writing prompts and you answer with a snippet.
What I mean by "snippet" is simply a tiny little bit of writing. It's quick, effortless, and -more importantly- fun!

I woudn't for a minute impliy that I -or anyone else- am entitled to decide who writes an explicitly "better" snippet, so this is in fact more of a writing exercise than a typical competition. I hope you'll participate enthusiastically and regularly nonetheless.

Rules:
- Your snippet must be Digimon related
- Your snippet must be less than 100 words (unless stated otherwise)
- You may write several snippets, but as seperate pieces (an implied continuation is fine, they just need to be able to stand alone)

Decisions regarding the frequency of the prompts haven't yet been made. We'll see how this goes.

Prompt #1: Christmas Decorations

"Veemon, what happened?"

Davis dropped the grocery bags he'd been carrying at the sight before him.

"What do you mean, Davis?" Veemon answered, completely oblivious.

"What happened to the Christmas tree?"

The once-full tree was now bare of half its decorations. The candy canes that had been hung earlier that day were gone, the string of popcorn that had taken hours to put together... all of it was gone!

Veemon chuckled guiltily and replied, "It's not my fault, Davis... you're the one that covered the tree with food. I thought you wanted me to eat it."

When Kari entered the living room, she found chaos. Everywhere she looked was cluttered with stray decorations – and not in an artful way. It was as if the spirit of Christmas itself had vomited all over the room. Who could have created such a mess? Was it Meeko?

A muffled cry caught her attention. It came from a box from which tinsel overflowed, and, wait, were those feet?

“Kari! I'm stuck!”

It was none other than her brother Tai. She should have known, really. He did this every year.

"Decorations."

Gabumon nodded eagerly.

“I hate decorations.”

“But why? It’s Christmas!”

Yamato shot Gabumon an annoyed glare. “They’re too…decorative.”

Gabumon snorted. “Fine, be that way.”

Yamato put his headphones back on and turned back to his writing as Gabumon left him to his own devices. He neither saw the digimon scurry stealthily about, nor did he hear his soft footsteps – and occasional swear word.

He jumped when a claw poked into his side. His eyes widened. Reds, greens, and whites coated every inch of his walls. And in the middle were the words “Don’t be boring!”

Yamato facepalmed.

Eh... Forgot my own idea. Better late than never, I suppose!

Prompt #2 New Year's Eve Countdown

100 words exactly

“5!”
Ken sighed as he stood in the corner, drink in hand.
“4!”
Another New Year's Eve, another shamefully kiss-less night.
“3!”
He was, of course, more than happy to be celebrating with friends.
“2!”
But a kiss, just one tiny kiss at midnight, didn't seem like too much to ask for.
“1!”
Charging towards him, was that-?
“Happy New Year!”

Ken did get his kiss, but he would have to wait until he was no longer concussed to appreciate the fact, followed by a sheepish confession to realize it had been from Miyako.

Davis slunked in between Kari and TK, wiggling his eyebrows and glancing at the clock every few seconds.

"So, Kari, are you ready to give me a kiss?"

"Sorry, Davis," TK replied, "but she's with me."

"Don't be a spoilsport... we all know she wants to kiss me."

Both boys latched on to one of Kari's arms and a mini-tug-of-war ensued as the clock's needle drew closer to midnight.

"3, 2... ONE!"

TK and Davis leaned forward, expecting a kiss from Kari, who had stepped back, and they promptly collided with each other and finally got their New Year's kiss...

OK, so I was expecting it, but it still got me! Love it!

Alyss, that one KILLED me! That was so funny~! XD

“It’s almost New Years! Everyone get ready!”

Taichi rushed out of the cabin (you know the one) with a box and a lighter. Agumon raised an eyebrow, and Taichi snickered.

“Wait ‘till you SEE this sucker blow!” he said, lifting a brick of firecrackers from the box.

“5, 4, 3, 2, 1…” The exclamation of “Happy New Year!” was interrupted by a series of explosions, followed by one extremely loud one. Everyone rushed outside to be greeted by Taichi … a soot-covered, eyebrow-less Taichi with a humongous grin.

“That… was… AWESOME!” he cried, and then he collapsed into the snow.

(EXACTLY 100 words, too!)

Prompt #3: TV

"Whatcha watching, Matt?"

"Something you can't watch. Go away, TK."

TK pouted, "Why can't I watch it? It doesn't look like anything bad."

"You just can't, kiddo," Matt sighed, "it's not for your age group."

The younger of the two left, still pouting.

Two weeks later, Matt came into the living room, seeing that TK was watching some cartoon about dinosaurs and sat on the couch beside his brother.

"Uh, you can't watch this, Matt... It's not for your age group."

A little weird, but...



“It’s my turn!”

“No, it’s mine!”

“Nuh-uh! Mom said it was mine! MOOOM!”

Miyako Inoue walked out of the kitchen to see her three kids – aged 13, 9, and 4 fighting over the TV. Again. She had had enough.

“Until you kids are 40, you will never watch TV again!” she shouted.

And with that, she hurled the cleaver in her hand at the TV. Satisfied with her results, Miyako left her horrified kids in a state of shock as she returned to her baking.

“Oh, and wash up, kids – it’s dinner as soon as daddy gets home!” she sang.

Click. News. Click. Sappy drama. Click. Paula Dean.

Cody sighed in frustration and tossed the control on the couch. "With all of the advancements in technology, you would think there would be something decent on the television." At that moment, Armadillomon came into the room.

"Can I watch TV?" he asked.

"Be my guest." With that, Cody went to his room to study before supper.

Hours later, Cody returned to the living room, only to be aghast at what Armadillomon was watching. He hurriedly snatched the remote and turned it off. "Armadillomon!"

"What? I thought it was WWE!"

Prompt #4: Homework

She hadn't seen Daisuke in weeks. And so this morning she invited him over for tea; it was an excuse for the pair to get reacquainted. It lasted an entirety of two minutes before Daisuke caught sight of her classroom planner.

"Hikari-chan, don't you think you're giving your little rascals too much homework?"

She placed the teacup down on the table in front of him as he flipped through the pages. "Not at all, what makes you say that?"

"Look over here," Daisuke pointed. "After all the work you planned out for Monday and Tuesday, even the calendar is going WTF."

From now on I'll have the ability to be amused simply by looking at a calendar.

Prompt #5: Missed Opportunity (/opportunities)

Nina, this is a fantastic idea!

Joe kept running, even though the train was zooming past him and into the distance. To a casual onlooker, he looked like he was racing the train to see who could reach the destination first.

When in actual fact he’d just missed the only train that goes to the outskirts of the city that he could get. But Joe was very determined.

Running as fast as he was, it was no surprise to anyone that he slipped in a puddle of spilt coffee and fell flat on his face.

Joe groaned.

So much for seeing Lady Gaga tonight, he thought.

TK lounged in Kari's office, playing with one of her many pencils, twirling it and tossing it and catching it, all the while extremely bored.

Kari said she'd only be a few minutes - didn't she know that the reservations at the restaurant weren't going to keep if they didn't show? - but here he was, twenty minutes later, still waiting on her.

The door burst open - finally here, that little liar - and TK's hand twitched, causing the pencil to drop to the floor. Kari paused in the doorway, then walked forward saying, "Here, let me get that..."

TK watched from his chair as his childhood friend came up beside him and bent down to pick up the pencil and holy crap her skirt's really short.

Instinctively, TK leaned back in his chair, balancing on two of the legs, just so that he could catch a glimpse of her panties. It wasn't like he was a pervert or anything - just curious. Red? Green? Polka-dot?

Kari's fingers touched the writing utencil just as TK's chair tipped backwards and crashed onto the floor.

Guess I'll never know... he mourned.

Prompt #6: Coffee

It was Sunday.

This meant two things: One - it was homework day, the only day a week he spent sitting at his desk to finish those pesky assignments; and two - it was coffee day.

Coffee day was on Sunday for obvious reasons. It kept him awake while he slogged through endless amounts of math and cramped his hand from writing so many inane paragraphs. It also provided him with an excuse to gaze out the window longingly, forsaking his duties as a student while he sipped slowly at his steaming hot beverage.

The most important reason Sunday was coffee day though, was because tomorrow, Monday, was grocery day. By Sunday, most of the food in the house had dwindled down to a minimum, leaving his mother to paste together a meager dinner at night. However, as all of the groceries were at their lowest point during the week, Davis's cup of Sunday coffee often used up the last of the coffee beans, leaving Jun - an avid coffee drinker - pissed off and irritable all day long.

Yes, Sunday was a marvelous day indeed.

I can't believe how easily Sora/Yamato comes to me these days.

Sora woke to an empty apartment. She had been living with Yamato for just over six months now, but their hectic schedules meant they hardly ever saw each other. Yamato had a long commute across town, and nearly always left before she woke up.
She walked into the kitchen, finding a bowl of soggy cereal and a mug of lukewarm coffee. Next to them lay a note that said: Love you xx.
Sora held the mug close to her chest and snuggled into the sofa in the next room. Some things were just more important than drinking your coffee hot.

Excuse the double post, it's for the sake of clarity. (And b/c I believe in the seperation of authority from one's person, but that's neither here nor there.)

Prompt #7: Lie

"Tell me the truth, Daisuke." Hikari stared him down hard. He winced at her gaze. "You just stood by there as he asked me out. Why?"

He stuttered, his mind thinking up excuses rather than explanations. He gulped nervously, "He told me he'd be doing it beforehand..."

"And you were alright with that?" She asked skeptically.

"Of course not!" Daisuke defended. "I told him the day I'd simply stand by and watch him ask you out would be the day that pigs fly!"

By now Hikari was confused. "So what happened?"

Daisuke frowned. "Well, see, he had Patamon with him so..."

Lol.

I can't believe your mind can come up with this stuff so early in the morning.
