Hmm... I've been tempted to give Deathnote a go, might do soon.

What's the basic plot?

A Deathnote is a notebook a Shinigami (Japanese Grim Reaper) uses to kill people. Anyone whose name is written in the book will die; if no cause of death is writted the person will die of a heart attack in 30 seconds.

Light, a young genius, finds a Deathnote that was dropped by the Shinigami Ryuk. He decides to use the Deathnote to kill criminals and thus make the world a better place. The police figure out that it is not a coincidenc that all these criminals are dropping dead of hear attacks. That's when L, the world's greatest detective, comes in.

It becomes a cat and mouse game between the two geniuses.

I'm going to say FMA manga is really good. (In my opinion).

Death note was good too, but I watched the anime rather than the manga.

Elfen Lied's manga is ok too, but the second half gets a little over-the-top (I mean, Lucy takes on a fighter squadron, a warship, and a couple tanks all by herself???)

Death Note was fantastic, but I never got to finish it (my manga supplier.. erhm... friend graduated so... Ehehe.) I'm not going to say my favorite part of the series for those of you who haven't read it yet (I've heard the hatred of spoilers here is legendary in and of itself) but... episode 19 of the anime. XD

MAHOU SENSEI NEGIMA. Hands down. It's reeeeally perverted in the first, like, 8 volumes, but as it gets into the school festival/magic world arc, it's more of the action and stuff.

Aana, I have to agree that Tsubasa is an awesome manga, but I've been confused in the most recent chapters. D:

Hmm, what are some others...? Oh! Hibiki's Magic is really cute, but there's only two volumes and its on hiatus...

Do you have any idea what's going on? I mean, the main baddie just kind of vanished...

I've read the first 5 or 6 volulmes of Vampire Knight, but stopped because well, in all honesty, I got bored.

Anyone who's read it willing to convince me otherwise? I sometimes wonder if I should've kept with it.

I didn't know anything about Death Note until I watched the RL Movies! Apart from everyone ogling at L (I seemed to be the only one who thought Light was cuter in the movie) I found the plot pretty cool! I might get around to the anime one day, seeing how manga has always confused me...

Listen to the second opening theme. There's more swearing in it than all other songs I've heard combined.

I liked the Deatnote movie! (Light's actor was Shuya in Battle Royale!)

I was so exited when Forbidden Planet had it in stock and I could buy it. Now I have to look and see if they have the sequels.

The anime is good (though I think Light sounds too nice in the dub version). The manga is better though I think most manga are better than their anime versions (except for FMA).

Awesome Manga Rec

It's called Ludwig Kakumei. Ever heard of it?

If you haven't here's why you should check it out:

First of all, it's by Kaori Yuki, and she's one of the best manga artists (according to me, but still.)

It's a sort of parody of some of the Grimm fairytales. There are well-known ones, like Snow White, and more obscure ones, such as Maid Maleen.

The main character is Prince Ludwig, and he's not exactly your usual Prince Charming. He's a total narcissic womanizer often seen wearing leopard print and (what I'm pretty sure is) leather. His father wants him to find a wife (a living one; the prince has a certain... preference at one point, "They're less demanding that way,") so he travels around, meeting princesses and such.
To quote him: "What extrodinary breas- I mean, beauty."
"Prince Lui, I have gathered information about Sleeping Beauty!" "Did you get her measurements?"

The princesses are brilliant too: Snow White, for exemple, is evil with "skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and a heart as black as the deepest darkest void."
Many of the princesses are delusionnal, Ludwig tends to be blunt about it.

There's also Little Red Riding Hood, she's an assassin who earned her name from her blood-soaked bonnet.

It can get "pervy" in some ares (as in the Prince is only interested in girls with gnerous amounts of cleavage.) The Snow White chapter is a darker than the others, so don't let it throw you off completely.
