Are you kidding me? Amy Lee can hit three octaves!? Well... that puts my voice to shame. *joined the band for a reason*

And as for falsettos... have you guys ever heard of Nick Pitera? THAT man has a crazy ass falsetto. I played one of his videos to my mom with the window minimized and she seriously believed that there were two singers.

(In case you don't believe me, I have proof)

Great godzilla, I jumped out of my seat when he changed voices.

*ahem* His falsetto really isn't that impressive, I can detect he was putting a squeeze on his voice as he sang in some of the parts (at least in this song, focus on 1:43-48). But it was good nonetheless.

(wait, did I just turn into the critic this thread's ranting about?)

Once a musician, always a musician...

...you really should pick up those instruments again, Andre.

Come semestral break, we'll find out if my hands can still hold the violin like they used to.

Yeah, Andre, I'd noticed that too. I guess it was one of his earliest songs - he's gotten a lot better since then. But oh well.

Egad, you play violin? I'm jealous... I play the most useless instrument in the world besides piccolo (aka flute).

What's so bad about the flute? It breathes with the musician, it's sound carrying its holder's depth and passion; ephemeral poetry infused into the very ether. Such beauty.

(I second Aana's DO IT!)

But the flute is pretty much useless in marching band. Which I am. And then even during the sit-down season, we don't do much. No lie, when we were playing the 1st Suite in E flat by Gustav Holst, there was a movement where we rested for 89 measures straight. It was pretty lame. So unless you're a soloist, it's pretty useless. I won't deny that it's a beautiful instrument, though. But don't even get me started on the piccolo. DX

When I first started playing in band, I wanted to play trumpet, but my mom said it was too masculine and wouldn't let me play it. And then she said I had to carry on the tradition of all the females playing clarinet, which I adamantly refused, so I settled with flute.

Suggest Dance of the Reed Pipes(edit: changed the link, this one's better) to your conductor. If he refuses, show a video of it to your mom and if she's the bandmom I think she is, then everything will go smoothly.

There are always instruments that get overlooked in a band (or chamber music) but there's always something you can do about it.

Ahhh, my mom's not one of the legendary "band mom". She's too busy to volunteer with the band. But I'll definitely suggest it to the guy, if he's not too busy screwing up our senior year with his "jazzeh" show for marching band.

I do hope it goes well, 89 measure rests are such a waste.

Haha, I played the flute for two years... only because I didn't want to go into art and my parents refused to buy another instrument after buying my sister a flute.

It was pretty good though. I like the flute Very Happy

Ahhh band Smile How I adore it. I like flute--it's got a pretty sound. I can't play though. (Ive tried on my flautist friend's SHINY NEW FLUTE... It was a fail of epic proportions.)

I play saxophone, alto and baritone because after the Bari player quit, my section conned little old freshie me into it... *sighs* If only I'd known better. I can't even march with the damn thing on... Stupid thing is the size of me...

Wait. Question! How did we go from ceiticsto band...?
