Offensive or amusing? You tell me. I'll keep track.

I've got 1 for Offensive right about now.

It's kind of interesting they say vegetarians are skinner than meat-eaters since most people who become vegetarians gain weight because they eat a lot of snacks and other non-meat foods to substitue the meat.

But the sign is offensive to me.

Who are they to comment about people's weight?

I laughed. Loudly. My apologies.
I find the intended pun lame, but the fact that it was offensive made me laugh. (I'd like to note that I am a little ashamed that offensive material makes me laugh.)

And Goggles, I heard some kids in Japan (I think) eat whale for school lunches.

I found it offensive. But PETA typically has no tact, so I'm not surprised.

But those veggie-eaters who are 'leaner' are also typically more prone to malnutrition, as well.

Hahaha... sorry, but I found that amusing. Very Happy I guess it's offensive to some people... but like Nina I found it funny. Embarassed

*laughs to himself*

They claim that being a veggie-eater makes you lose weight. Thus, being vegetarian reduces the number of "whales" like me on earth.

If you didn't find it funny it's okay. You're just not geeky enough.

Ok, I get it now (I got it in the first place, but the pun was so pathetic I thought I must be missing something). And I do have something to say...

And bear in mind I don't really mean to offend anyone...
But I'd just like to pick up on one thing...

I mean no offense Caitlin, but since when have you needed to be someone important to comment on people's weight? It happens all the time- from the "fat idiot" driving like a madman to the "skinny bitch" holding up the queue because she wants her sandwich made me low-fat-no-carb-something something. And quite frankly, why should anyone be offended by comments on their weight?

...There was probably a better way to put that.

Sorry, all this talk of vegetarianism is starting to get to me.

Actually, I feel that it depends on how the comment is made. I think a person has every right to be pissed if someone makes a rude and unneccessary comment in their face (or even behind their back); something like, "You're fat and ugly, go and die." But for those general comments that we've gotten so used to making, like the ones Aana listed... as long as they're out of earshot, I think those are fine.

I found the article amusing because honestly, it wasn't targeted specifically at anybody and meant purely for a joke, imo. Comparing people at the beach to beached whales is a bit of an old joke actually. It's not the first time I've read something like that! Smile

It was meant as a joke?

Oh...I thought it was serious. I wasn't paying attention.

...I feel stupid right now.

I took it as a joke. Do you mean to say that there're really billboards like those out there?! Omg, I want to see them!!

Either way, I wouldn't read too much into it.
